Reporting to the Senior Manager, Global Student Mobility (Exchange and Study Abroad), the Study Abroad and Exchange Coordinator will support the work of the Global Student Mobility Unit in delivering services to Deakin students seeking to study outside Australia and international students coming to Deakin University on exchange and study abroad programs. You will also provide administrative support to the Senior Manager, ensuring the smooth operation, development and promotion of all programs managed within the Unit.

With a high level of communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to be well-organised, this is an excellent opportunity if you are passionate about working in higher education, dedicated to working with domestic and international students and partners and interested in representing Deakin University worldwide.

  • Interested candidates should note that this position is required to work outside business hours from time to time (e.g. work at evening or weekend events is required) and that travel to other campuses and potential international travel will be required.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the coordination and promotion of Deakin University mobility programs and activities, including exchange and study abroad programs, study tours and international internship, volunteering and global citizenship programs.
  • Provide information and advice to prospective incoming and outgoing students, including accreditation requirements for local and overseas courses.
  • Coordinate internal and external client relationships with domestic and international stakeholders.
  • Assist with the development of marketing and communication strategies, promotional plans, website information and publications.
  • Assist with the briefing of academic staff and Faculty student support staff concerning student mobility activities.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of pre-departure and welcome information and orientation and returning home programs for inbound and outbound students.
  • Liaise with staff in both Deakin International and the Division of Student Administration to facilitate the efficient processing of scholarships, grants, travel insurance, overseas student health cover, and international partner invoices and provide reports where required.
  • Represent Deakin University in meetings, forums and other events, with international partner institutions.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Completion of a degree in a relevant area and/or appropriate professional work experience.
  • Capability to work positively and effectively autonomously as well as part of a collaborative work team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to establish effective working relationships with people at all levels and a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively with both students and external stakeholders and/or clients from business, government or community sectors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality, results-focused customer service along with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Outstanding organisational, time management and coordination skills, together with a demonstrated ability to prioritise workload, work with demands to meet deadlines and be flexible in responding to changing work priorities.
  • Understanding of, or capacity to acquire understanding of, issues relating to course structure and credit transfer within higher education systems in Australia and abroad.
  • Computer skills utilising a range of software packages such as Microsoft Office or Callista Student Management System.
  • An international focus with awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural differences.
  • Ability to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of Deakin University’s student mobility programs.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy with confidential and sensitive information.
