Your role in our future.
This is an excellent opportunity for an advanced trainee in infectious diseases at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, a tertiary referral centre in Parkville. Haematology, medical, surgical and radiation oncology units provide extensive inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory care services across the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre including to the intensive care unit at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The Department of Infectious Diseases is staffed by six sessional infectious diseases physicians, two infection prevention practitioners and one infection nurse practitioner. The service sees more than 700 referrals per year, provides an antimicrobial stewardship service and is involved in the delivery of quality improvement activities including best practice sepsis management.
You will have exposure to management and prevention of a broad range of nosocomial and communitu-acquired infections in the immunocompromised patient group. This involves delivery of a consultative service, antimicrobial stewardship activities, attendance at infectious diseases outpatient clinics, haematology ward rounds and educational meetings including journal club. In addition, you will have hands-on experience as an active member of the infection prevention team. Opportunities also exist for research and post-graduate study in the area of infections in immunocompromised hosts.
